EngageCX 13.0 (Onyx) Release Notes
Summary
The 13.0 release brings a completely new dynamic infrastructure by integrating apps with our well-known EngageCX Platform. With this release, we are pleased to introduce the EngageCX's Application Suite, that serves your organization's purposes much better. EngageCX suite of applications enable organizations to streamline digital interactions and engage with audiences in new and exciting ways.
Note
By upgrading older EngageCX solutions (for instance, 11.0 - Lillipup, 10.5 - Klink, etc.) to the EngageCX 13.0 (aka Onyx) release, the old licenses will be no longer available. To upgrade your licenses, please reach out to your Customer Success Executive, or contact us, at engagecxsupport@mhcautomation.com.
New Features
We are pleased to share several enhancements present in the EngageCX solution 13.0. We've put together a list with all the new features, improvements, and EngageCX's Application Suite added in this release. The Onyx version also provides fixes to customer-reported issues.
Version 13.4.12
Rebranding
The June 2022 release comes with a new name of the solution and a new style. Officially, Engage has been renamed MHC EngageCX. The solution keeps the same functions and features and adds up a couple of new implementations and bugs fixed, under a new sketch.
Electronic Signature
In Onyx Patch 12, we are excited to bring Electronic Signature into our EngageCX solution. The benefit of eSignature is to provide consent and approval of your rendered documents, in a dynamic way. The main features you will find in the latest release are dynamic signer assignation, date/name/initials e-Signing, and workflow automation including eSign.
Digital Signature
June 2022 release introduces Digital Signature with an Adobe trusted authority. This can be very easily enabled from both, workflows and/or REST API. The possibility of customers purchasing and using their own certificate is available.
PDF Accessibility supports WCAG 2.0 and WCAG2.1
We have expanded the PDF Accessibility generation in the latest release. Generating accessible PDFs is possible now using WCAG2.0 and WCAG2.1 standard rules.
Integration with NetSuite
With the latest release, you can integrate your NetSuite environment with REST API and retrieve data using Modeler queries.
Version 13.4.10
EngageCX Font Management
Managing your document template’s fonts has never been easier! This release brings a better font management solution, allowing you to add and configure font files directly in your Workspaces. Once you add them to the Fonts folder, font variants are automatically retrieved and cached during document's generation by the Publishing Engine component, Studio design tool and/or Online Template Editor.
XML Editor
The April 2022 release brings an online built-in XML Editor, that you can use to check and update the source of all your templates, diagrams and/or input data.
Security Improvements
Powerful improvements have been brought at the Security level. A new password policy is enforced at logging, and 3rd party audit performance is in place trusted by White Oak. In addition, we have updated several 3rd party libraries into our application, such as harfbuzz, libpng, lipjpeg, zlib, v8, freetype and openssl.
Performance Enhancements
In the latest release significant performance improvements have been added for Forms and Communications. You will be able to notice speed and responsiveness when accessing Form editing, Form Previews, Communications and Job Maintenance pages.
OData Connection Improvements
In the Onyx Release 4, we have refactored the OData connector to work with any application that has support for OData 2.0 protocol like Creation and Progress HDP.
XSL Output Build Version
A new enhancement has been brought when generating XSL outputs with Publisher. To easily keep and track the files generated, the build version and number is automatically placed inside the documents.

Setup Improvements
Onyx improvements bring a new option to select SSL certificates from the Centralized Certificate Store (CCS). This feature can be used to choose website certificates from one central network location. Another feature is that EngageCX solution’s silent installer has been improved and updated with encryption, IIS logs and the CCS additional options that can be set during installation process. Among the setup enhancements, there is also a new web security policy mechanism (HSTS = HTTP Strict Transport Security) that protects and forces the web browsers to interact only via secure HTTP secure connections. This feature works since IIS 10.0 1709; if the version is lower the setup will allow configuring HSTS only manually.
Cloud Improvements
In this release, bundles for Cloud deployment for all the EngageCX solutions (Develop, Converse, Experience) were implemented.
Engage Built-In Apps On-Prem Licensing
With the Onyx release, a new set of Apps do not have a licensing dependability enabled anymore. This feature applies only to the following Built-In Apps: Communications, Workspaces, Developer, Admin, Tasks, Journeys, Promotions, and People. For any other App, the manifest licensing remains the same as described in each documentation of the corresponding EngageCX App. The features within Apps will be still controlled by the licensing system.
Additional Log Levels
Some additional log levels were introduced along with the new version, such as “Error” – only errors will be logged and “Warning” – only errors and warnings will be logged. These levels are added in both EngageCX solutions (Engage, Publishing Engine).
Storage Notifications
With the Onyx release, the system will now send notifications when different storage issues appear, such as corruption, desynchronization, etc. Each error captured by the Storage Service will notify all the system administrators, but if the same error occurs in an appropriate time interval, the notification should not be resent; therefore, the system will not spam system administrators with storage alerts.
Workflow Improvements
An improvement has been added to the Index step in workflows for the Onyx release. The Output filename property has been introduced and, in this way, the ability to rename index reports is available. There is now a possibility to rename the CSV files created by the Index step.
Journeys Improvements
In the Journeys app, the Retry All Suspended Jobs feature has been developed as an API call that returns which jobs were retried. Also, a Suspended filter is introduced, where the failed jobs will be filtered and listed in the Engagement Jobs grid. Other enhancements have been added to Journeys by implementing REST Trigger. In the User Interface, when adding a trigger, a REST link is computed in such a way that when the trigger is called externally, the touchpoint in the journey will be activated. The link is an absolute URL of this form, which ID persists across import/export operations. The trigger ID can be specified by the user (optional) or by an automated process entry point. Besides these features, the journey validation is done now is an automated fashion. When validating a journey, the system will also check that an automated process has at least one entry point trigger. Another important feature is the use of dependency injection technique, so that users can delegate the responsibility of some services to the injector. This component will construct the injects passed to the services and the clients just make use of them, without building those service calls.
Folio Improvements
In Onyx, batch processing capabilities along with CRM Accounts association were added for Folio App. Users will be able to generate a batch of folio documents, each one of them associated with a given contact.
Forms Improvements
Any form changes are saved now automatically after a run-time period of 10 seconds (by default) by the Auto-Save feature. This feature applies to interactive communications that contain a form within. Some developments have been brought to the Preview mode as well. When a preview takes too long to be rendered, a loading control will take over. There is a priority based on latest requests that will cancel previous previews if a new one must be generated. Besides this feature, there is another option in Onyx release that allows users to take a photo from a desktop device. The Repository picker is implemented and the user will be able to take and use a camera photo on a desktop device similarly to the Android experience (when you click the file selector, you can use the camera to take a picture).
Export/Import Multiple Projects
EngageCX is fully capable now of exporting/importing multiple projects inside an environment. Additionally, when importing folders that contain .epj files, the project integrity is maintained, and the destination project is not broken.
AI Improvements
The Asset Navigation is implemented in the AI app under this release. The ability to select and navigate through email/pdf assets and to view the filtered suggestions is now available. For a better User Experience, in those projects without assets (emails), Assets Navigation sidebar is not being displayed. Otherwise, for the projects that have assets attached, each one of the existing assets has its own set of suggestions. Therefore, for each project asset a unique AssetID is generated.
Security Improvements
Some unused swagger code has been removed to quickly generate code in the language of their choosing. In that way, a more secure, integrated platform will be provided to visualize and interact with the API’s resources. Also, an update of Bootstrap has been performed to a newer version. Additionally, an option was added to control cache in configuration files for static resources. The option has been implemented in all EngageCX websites (Enterprise, Sysadmin and Customer Portal).
Template Editor Improvements
In the current release, page layout editing has been improved. The new solution of the page editor will be able to edit page size, margins, and columns more easily than the page settings in Nido release. In Onyx, there is possible now to define custom sizes for templates. Additionally, an improvement has been brought to editing the page sequence and their dynamic properties. The editing of the page sets is upgraded and options for making them dynamic has been added.
Another feature is the ability to rotate the text box and table cell. The components are taken as containers, providing options to add images, visualizations and to rotate them inside the Template Editor. Also, when inserting an image in the Editor, the user will be able to choose between a static image (available in Engage solution) or a dynamic value from an XML data source. Currently, this capability exists in the Nido version of Studio Publisher, but now it is available in the Template Editor - Onyx release.
The Onyx release comes with a new Dynamic Property dialog implemented to be more user friendly. Some options will be grayed out when the operation cannot be executed.
Table Editing Improvements
Some additional editing options has been introduced in the Publisher tool. The ability to select and apply changes on a whole column of a table, similarly to rows has been implemented, along with setting the Layout Properties dynamically and table conditional rows and columns capabilities.
Parent Set for External Document
In this release, the user should be able to set for an external document, if it is available - a Parent Set. The behavior is similar to the page sequence parent set feature and it allows you to configure different parents and change the order of your pages in an external file.
EngageCX Drive
In EngageCX Drive tool, the following major improvements have been brought: implementing Search Box that allows users to find items from the repository tree more easily, the ability to detect document dependencies to synchronize them back in Engage solution (for example, when checking-in a template, the system will prompt the user to check-in all the dependencies inserted in that document). Market Place
An additional feature configuration has been brought to the Domain Settings. The EngageCX Marketplace implementation allows to browse and install apps that integrate with your organization. Customer Portal Look&Feel
The Customer Portal can now be customized from the Sysadmin website. The portal uses a new default .css file with all the properties for the Navigation Bar, Environment, User or Side panels, configured per environment from Admin App>Sysinternals>Portal>Settings.
MasterLog
A new MasterLog Service has been implemented for debugging and audit purposes, available in both websites, Enterprise and Sysadmin. In the Background Services, it writes whenever a request is starting, finishing or an error occurring. Additionally, everywhere the System Log is used, another entry is logged to Master Log. An associated service, MasterLogSvc (Default Port: 40043) is included in the Setup Wizard and it can be installed as a standalone Windows Service.
Security Improvements
In Onyx, encryption keys will be used from the Windows Registry. In this way, there will be an encrypted connection between services. TCP Communications will be encrypted, along with the saved tokens in Cookies instead of the local storage. The Caching method will be implemented for the registry encryption key, as well. Besides these features, a new Setup page is added during the installation process for the Encryption Key dialog.
HA Storage Improvements
With this new release, when the first Storage Service goes down, a notification is automatically sent to inform the system administrator. A new storage configuration is also used for the storage client in a High Availability deployment. All these multiple Storage Services have now the possibility to be configured from the Sysadmin website.
MailKit Client
The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is now replaced by the MailKit Client because, in case of new developments, the old SMTP client might not support many types of modern protocols.
Engagement Service
The Engagement Service is extracted to work as a separate standalone service to improve future scalability and performance. It is moved as an independent Windows Service that works with the Lock Service in HA conditions, registers TCP ports and the service also has a separate associated log file. The Engagement Logs show only the changes that occur - at the info level, but more details and a summary after each run - at the debug level. Besides these features, a new Setup page is added during the installation process for the Engagement Service dialog.
Workflow Service
The Workflow Service is extracted in the same way the Engagement Service was, to work as a separate standalone service. The Workflow Engine is built in .NET Core and it is configurable, in this release, as the Publishing Engine, Data Engine, etc. per environment. Additionally, some Web Request improvements have been included as multi-threaded implementation for static and dynamic parameters in Web Requests and the auto-scale engagement workflow runner on multiple threads. Besides these features, a new Setup page is added during the installation process for the Workflow Service dialog.
ZPL Output
An additional export option has been implemented in the Publisher tool. The Zebra Printer Label (.zpl) file can be exported from any template designed with Publisher. The ZPL format is a data file that stores different labels information and send it to Zebra printers.
Barcode Improvements
Some enhancements have been brought to the Barcode element in this release. A simplified Insert Barcode dialog is implemented, with the following fields: Type, Value and Preview. The "Remove" button is now available to the Properties Sidebar for the Barcode component. With Onyx, barcodes are supported even in the ZPL Output.
Version 13.1.3
Lock Service
An additional High Availability clustering configuration has been brought to the Lock Service. The Active-Active implementation allows to not configure anymore a Lock Service in the Load Balancer.
